AB 857 (Perea)is critical to improving air quality and public health in California.  By adding near-zero-emission fuels, such as natural gas to the California Clean Truck, Bus and Off-Road Vehicle and Equipment Technology Program,AB 857 will increase the proportion of funds appropriated for clean heavy-duty truck technology.

BizFed supports AB 1074, requiring refueling infrastructure plan for clean vehicles

AB 1074 (Hernandez)would require the California Energy Commission to include in its energy management plans a plan to ensure there is sufficient vehicle refueling infrastructure to support clean natural gas vehicles. AB 1074 will also reassure consumers that California is serious about building its alternative fuel infrastructure by taking the first step in planning around the number of needed stations and their best location.

Together, AB 857 (Perea) and AB 1074 (Hernandez) form a legislative package to promote the use of cleaner alternative fuels in the transportation sector.

BizFed opposes SB 608, prohibits local law enforcement from enforcing vehicle/park/sidewalk camping laws

SB 608 (Liu)would prohibit local jurisdictions from enforcing laws against camping on public sidewalks, in public parks, and in vehicles on public streets. This will override the authority of local cities, police, Business Improvement Districts, and private security officers that are working to ensure public safety and quality of life in accordance with the needs, resources, and desires of the local community. SB 608 contains no solutions for homelessness, and instead creates a special set of exemptions and privileges for one group of people and undermines the equal applicability of laws.

Urgent request to support Trans-Pacific Partnership approved by BizFed board

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is an international free trade deal being negotiated now with 11 other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. It would bring major economic benefits to Los Angeles and California by reducing barriers to trade and increasing access to foreign markets. Trade currently supports 4.7 million jobs in California and expanding trade – both exports and imports – will benefit California’s workers. The new partners of the TPP encompass two-thirds of the world economy – a market of nearly 500 million consumers with a combined GDP of nearly $12 trillion.
