I want to thank all of our BizFed members who stepped up and spoke out in support of SB 1338 (Umberg), which establishes the Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment "CARE" Court framework. Civic and community leaders applauded today as Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law. CARE Court will address root causes of California's homelessness crisis by filling gaps in the state's mental health system, demanding government accountability, and getting Californians with severe mental illness the compassionate care they need.
"We're grateful BizFed wrote a letter in support of CARE Court," a Newsom staffer told us on a call this week. "The support we saw showcased it was a good step to take."
I invite you to share and quote the statement we issued today to local and national media outlets in response to Governor Newsom's move to sign SB 1338 into law. We'll keep our eyes and ears open to ensure CARE Court is launched compassionately and thoughtfully.
We have a Leadership Roundtable on the calendar with Senator Josh Newman, who co-sponsored SB 1338. Don't miss this session on Friday, September 30th at 2:45pm. Our small-group "LRT" events give BizFed members the opportunity to have candid, closed-door discussions with powerful decision makers and influencers. Have questions about the implementation of CARE Court systems? Be sure to raise your hand and ask Josh during live Q&A.
