HERE’S WHAT BIZFED BOARD DECIDED IN AUGUST
Many thanks to our June Board Meeting host LA County Department of Public Works!

De Leon Panders to Progressives,
Ignores $3 Trillion Cost

BizFed OPPOSES SB 100 (De Leon) which will establish an unachievable mandate that overburdens businesses.  It will accelerate already ambitious emission reduction goals to 100% clean energy by 2045 without a realistic plan or study to attain those goals. In the final days of the Legislative Session there is push to pass this bill, so your voice is needed today! Assemblymmbers Gipson, Jones-Sawyer, and Speaker Rendon are undecided and need to know what you think!  CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF OPPOSITION

Invest in Children’s Hospitals,
Support Prop 4 in
November

BizFed supports Proposition 4 on the November 2018 ballot.  It will authorize $1.5 billion in general obligation bonds which would award grants to children’s hospitals for construction, expansion, renovation, and equipment projects.  CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF SUPPORT to the Attorney General’s office.

A merger of two healthcare companies for future viability

Bringing together Dignity Health and Catholic Health Initiatives will not only create healthier communities across 28 states, but it will also improve access to healthcare to the most vulnerable patients and advance the move from “sick care” to “well care”.  This partnership will provide Dignity Health a stronger operational and financial foundation to better meet both internal needs and to continue to invest in innovative ways to prevent disease and ensure business productivity. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER

We Already Have Nurse to Patient Ratios but
Unions Push for More Power

BizFed opposes SB 1288 (Leyva) because it undermines the ability of the Department of Health Care Services to properly assess potential violations of existing nurse-to-patient ratios by imposing strict fines even if the health and safety of patients are not at risk and hospitals have a legitimate reason for reducing staff at a given time. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF OPPOSITION

Transit Oriented Housing Districts
Solve Multiple Problems at Once

SB 1288 (Allen) would authorize cities and counties to increase opportunities for financing infill developments next to transit corridors. These districts will become an important funding source for local governments to improve the neighborhoods near transit corridors. More housing opportunities that encourage residents to use other forms of transportation is a win-win for all. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF SUPPORT

A Forward-Thinking Solution to Supportive Housing

BizFed is supporting AB 2162 (Chiu) because this bill will respond to our homeless crisis by expediting the delivery of supportive housing. It will require developments that are 100% affordable and include a percentage of supportive housing units to be approved through a ministerial process, saving taxpayers money by reducing delays. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF SUPPORT

19,000 Housing Units at Tejon Ranch should be Approved

BizFed supports the Centennial at Tejon Ranch project because it will build 19,000 new homes with 10 million square feet of commercial space, essentially creating permanent jobs. BizFed is celebrating our 10th Anniversary with a commitment to lifting 1 million LA County residents out of poverty in the next decade, and our recent member poll highlighted housing production/affordability as the best solution to reducing poverty. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF SUPPORT

Don’t Add Obstacles for Minority & Women Owned Businesses

BizFed opposes SB 551 (Hueso) because it will implement costly and cumbersome administrative changes to small minority and women owned small businesses in Los Angeles County who rely on the California Capital Access Program (CALCAP).  CALCAP reduces lender risk in a manner that facilitates efficient and expeditious capital delivery to entrepreneurs. A threat to this like SB 551 will only create more problems for small business owners in LA County. CLICK HERE TO VIEW LETTER OF OPPOSITION
